About Reno

Reno is a son of Riverman that Hilltop Farm initially found in Germany and imported early during Riverman’s career. Not only did Reno show the fabulous type and athleticism that we saw in his sire, but he also brought with him an incredibly strong and interesting pedigree on his dam’s side.

Reno's dam, Gala, is by Caretino who is a well-respected Holsteiner stallion. Caretino brings rideability and exceptional athleticism to the pedigree. His sire Caletto II left an enduring legacy as an improvement sire who especially produced good riding horses with excellent movement (especially good canters). Landgraf I is the third sire lineage in Reno's pedigree. Landgraf's position as the "Sire of the Century" says it all: His influence is world wide and he is represented by scores of successful offspring in multiple disciplines.

Hilltop Farm planned for Reno to be promoted as a competition horse and his scope, carefulness, and technique pointed him towards the jumper ring with Margie Goldstein-Engle. In 2000, Reno swept all three divisions of the Mid-West International Jumper Futurity Finals, winning "Best Overall Type," "Best Overall Performance," and "Most Grand Prix Potential."

Reno traveled directly from the IJF Finals to the 100-Day Stallion Performance Testing in California. His victorious season continued as he was proclaimed Reserve Champion of the 100-Day Test that year. He earned numerous 9’s, including ones for his character, temperament, and ability to work. His strongly consistent performance was noted throughout the testing and his positive attitude earned favor from the testing officials and training conductor.

In the year 2001, Reno won several qualifiers for the American Young Jumper Championships and entered the finals with a no-fault record. Pulling one unfortunate rail in the jump-off, Reno finished 4th overall at the East Coast American Young Jumper Championship finals and continued to attract a great deal of attention among the top jumper professionals.

Hilltop Farm decided that this outstanding competitor deserved to continue his development to the top of the sport. Reno was sold to rider, Brian Shook, in Michigan and they are successfully competing at Grand Prix! They will be showing down in Wellington during the 2008 winter circuit

Reno's offspring have shown a beautiful type and the versatile athleticism of their sire. Hilltop Farm still maintains a supply of frozen semen for Reno and we look forward to continuing to share this dynamic stallion’s valuable genetics with our breeders.
